LADY ELINOR’S ESCAPE
by Linda McLaughlin
Sweet Regency Romance
A mysterious lady. An inquisitive gentleman. And a secret that could tear them apart.
Lady Elinor should be in London enjoying the season, not fearful and trapped in a country cottage with an unbalanced relative. When her aunt becomes violent, she flees straight into the path of a compassionate barrister. Desperate, she accepts his help, but will she be able to hide the truth from this inquisitive, intelligent man?
There are too many women in barrister Stephen Chaplin’s life, but he has never been able to turn his back on a woman in need. The reticent seamstress resists his every attempt to draw her out and remains a mystery he can’t solve.
Then a Bow Street Runner hired by her aunt comes asking questions. Elinor again turns to Stephen for help. But when circumstances reveal the truth about her background, will Stephen and Elinor lose their chance at happiness?

“LADY ELINOR’S ESCAPE is an enchanting tale with two charming lead characters who are meant for each other. Stephen is the knight in shining armor who falls for Ellie immediately, but believing that she is only a seamstress, he fights his feelings. Awareness of their class difference keeps Ellie from giving her heart completely. How will this perfectly suited couple deal with these problems?
With well-rounded and vital secondary characters and a simple but delightful premise, LADY ELINOR’S ESCAPE is a very enjoyable read. Ms. McLaughlin has once again created a tale rich with great characters and filled with romance, humor, and a twinge of sadness. Although this is the author’s first Regency novel, she’s done her research well. I highly recommend LADY ELINOR’S ESCAPE”. – Jani Brooks, Romance Reviews Today

“LADY ELINOR’S ESCAPE was a sweet and pleasant read. The author throws in a little heartbreak and a bit of adventure that livens up the story and saves it from being overly sweet. The main characters are likeable, especially Elinor, who could have easily become an overly tragic character but instead stood up for herself and takes control over her own destiny. The minor characters also add some entertainment with their efforts to help Stephen and Elinor’s relationship bloom. In the end, all of the story’s loose ends are tied up nicely, and I can also see a possible sequel based on one of the minor characters.” – S. Khaw, The Road to Romance
“A charming story from start to finish, this book takes readers to London and shows them the contrasting lifestyles that existed during the 1800’s. Although Elinor was a lady of breeding and culture, she was forced to flee to the middle-class section of the city, and thus exposed herself and the reader to people who had to work hard to make ends meet. Interestingly, Elinor took a position as a seamstress, and through this job the reader gets a closer look at the fashions of this time period.
An added bonus to the story was learning a bit about the legal system through Stephen’s profession. The laws were harsh and Elinor gets a glimpse of this on a personal level.
The reader gets a delightful tour of London when Elinor and Stephen take their outings. Hampton Court Palace and the dome at St. Paul’s were vividly described. With an obvious knowledge of this time period, the author uses clothing, dialogue and setting to add realistic touches to the story. The current political situation is also alluded to, and the characters’ actions are believable because they are based on life as it was.
Lady Elinor’s Escape captures the reader’s interest with a lively story, filled with mystery, danger and of course, true love.” – Joyce Handzo, In The Library Reviews
