Andrea Cooper is here today with an interview of her Elvin hero, Brock, from her Paranormal Romance, The Garnet Dagger. What a lovely cover!
Andrea: Thanks for sitting down with me today. Tell us a little about yourself.
I was Elvin and raised beyond the human border in a tree city. We were forbidden by our elders from mingling with mankind. However, their world fascinated me. But my curiosity snatched my fate with a vampyre bite, turning me into the Vaer – the Bringer of Death.
Andrea: I understand you have some kind of special power. Can you tell us about it?
It is a curse. Though, I do not crave blood as a vampyre bite affects humans, it is the kajh or life-essence that sustains me. My touch brings nourishment to me while killing the recipient.
Andrea: When did you discover you were the Vaer and your touch deadly?
When I kissed my betrothed, Liana, I thought I had survived the vampyre bite and his death because of being Elvin. I thought my kind had immunity to his. In vain, I tried to give back what I had taken, her life. But she was gone.
Andrea: Did you have special education or training to hone your power?
*Brock snorts.* None. The only thing I was given was a garnet dagger to find a witch of the prophecies. A witch whom the ancients deemed I must pierce her heart and draw her blood. And I nearly obeyed their command, but fell in love with the witch. My witch, Celeste.
Andrea: Do you consider your power a gift or a curse? Why?
A curse. Celeste is the only person I can touch and not drain their life-force away. The Vaer was spoken of to Elvin children as a warning-a monster-used to keep them in line. Now I am this abomination as my people believe.
Andrea: How does having this power complicate your life?
I must be cautious at all times. One slip, a casual pat on someone’s back, a brush of someone’s elbow and I could kill them. I cannot control my curse, at least not when it is starving no matter how hard I try. It is always there-eager to open-keeping it closed is impossible.
Andrea: If you could swap your power for another one, what would it be?
I would love to have Celeste’s power of healing. She cannot heal herself. Since she is a human and mortal, I worry about her traveling the countryside with me in order to destroy the Warloc and his army of deadwalkers. Yes, she is a powerful witch, but the Warloc is thousands of years old.
Celeste is the other piece of me. The light to my darkness. Without her, I would be lost.

The Garnet Dagger Blurb:
Everyone knows what happens when a vampire bites a human…but what if the victim is Elvin?
Forbidden to cross the Elvin barrier into human lands, Brock cannot sate his curiosity. Cursed by a vampyre bite that forces him to feed on the life-essence of others, he is unable to touch another without taking their life. Chained by prophesy, he must find a witch, pierce her heart, and draw her blood for his cure.
Celeste must escape the monks who have held her prisoner for years. Her magic has been kept dormant by her captors. An ancient powerful Warloc craves her powers. If he succeeds in devouring her magic, she and his world will die.
When Brock falls in love with Celeste before realizing her demise is his cure, will love triumph over his desire to be healed? Will he risk everything to save her from a Warloc, an oath breaker, who also wants her dead?

The Garnet Dagger Excerpt:
When my hand brushed hers, I felt a sense of relief. There was no need to worry. I did not bring death with me like the prophecy said. I settled down beside her and our fingers laced together. I ached to touch her. Kiss her lips and taste them.
My free hand cupped her face. Her smile widened. Drawn to her, I brushed my lips across hers. A prickling pulsed through my lips. She sighed, as if with pleasure, and I took her lips with my own. My heart pounded in my ears.
Our breath mingled together as one. Time froze. A tugging within, behind a thickness that settled over me. My heart vibrated louder, faster with each beat. Shafts of light pressed behind my closed eyes.
The restlessness of the wolves and their yips brought me to pause. But still, the sweetness of Liana’s lips upon mine, I could not stop. I felt the ripple of the earth beneath our tree home.
Water nourished the veins of the leaves. Then a wrenching ache crashed into me. In that moment, I knew Liana. Heart pounding in my ears, was hers . Her pain reached into me, but still I could not stop. Her light made me turn to her like a flower seeking the sun. Part of me shouted to free her.
Her thoughts and memories flooded into me. Her wishing to soar like a hawk, stolen kisses with other boys, and her reluctance to entertain me every time I mentioned humans.
Consuming her was a hunger I could not fathom. I drank her in. Until my hands and lips brushed coldness.

Andrea’s Bio: Andrea has always created characters and stories. But it wasn’t until she was in her late twenties that she wrote novels.
What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Then she met her husband and realized, yes love and romance are exactly like the songs and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).
She believes in the power of change and counting each moment as a blessing. But most importantly, she believes in love.
